Just like I did w/ my previous #TBT post, I'm gonna start jumping on THE WELL LA blog from time to time to drop some knowledge + photos + vids. Enjoy these brain farts from a fun day/night/whatever. Thanks for letting me hijack the blog again buds!
So, I went to that RBMA x PC Music presents POP CITY thing in Hollywood on July 20th, 2016...
Like the title says, I walked into my first PC Music event in LA, and I already felt old and confused. I mean, I've been to a grip of shows and raves in my day, but when I stepped into the club that night, I definitely was listening to some weirder, newer music and hanging out next to a bunch of young kids that looked like they were half Philip K. Dick and half Pokemon Go.
I think the first thing I heard was something that had overly bit-crushed effects coming out of the speakers that made them intentionally sound like the speakers were popping from being blown out. I mean, WTF? After just that, I started to think that I was going crazy... until I ran into the homie, Yung Skeeter, and he told me that this was just what PC music was and that it was designed to sort of fuck with you. So... I accepted it and proceeded to see what else was goin down tonite.
This is Felicita. I considered it more as a performance piece than new music. Once I accepted it that way, I enjoyed it more. I accidentally titled it wrong in the video when I uploaded it and I got yelled at by the kids on Youtube for a typo. Them kids were already fucking with me for not knowing everything at the speed of internet.
Then I saw another, very URL to IRL kind of thing. I saw that act QT play that song I heard all over the internets that Sophie and A.G. Cook had produced... and then it all started to make sense in the gloriously and intentionally lip-synced performance below. PC Music was that in-between intersection of J-Pop and confused Otaku kids trying to find themselves and to just have fun. Even if it's weird and shit.
Hear some more of that sound from the dude that started it, A.G. Cook... After seeing this dude serve it up to the (stoned?) crowd, I was down more and more with this PC Music shit...
Then, Hannah Diamond aka IRL British Hello Kitty did her thing and got the OG PC Music heads (lol) show signs of life...
THEN... with it being LA and all, Hannah brought her homegirl, CHARLI XCX, to do her thing. To be real, it was my first time that I saw Charli perform LIVE and I was down. Maybe it was her pro stage moves or dat ass... but I was definitely a fan.
Oh yeah, I had my Ricoh GR2 on me, so I snapped some snaps of some of the homies and the youth. Enjoy:
SOOO... that was my night listening to a bunch of new music and seeing a new crowd of kids that were into some newer, weirder shit. I'm down with that spirit and I'm down with the youth. So, let's see how far this goes, and let's see what's up.
I'll see you next time when I wanna write something else ;)
