Usually when I jump on this blog, I usually write about a rad #TBT moment of epicness w/ the The Well LA fam or covering an amazing event in LA b/c I'm in the hood. Well, this post is gonna be different... basically I'm just gonna share with you my experience in a far away land and why I had a rad time. I'm just glad I can write it out somewhere and share what happened b/c it was sorta nuts.
So, yeah, I randomly went to Japan from September 6th-14th...
Basically, my Japan trip began two weeks before I even set foot in Tokyo... when I was at some cutty warehouse party in LA that my bud, Waldo, was throwing in DTLA. When I was there, I ran into the homie, Garrett from Trash Talk saying that he was goin to Tokyo w/ Lee and the rest of the Trash Talk dudes and that my other homies Russ, Brick, Alexander Spit, Max and Fred from Slow Culture, were gonna be out there too. Then as you drunkenly do, you go onto your phone and impulse buy a roundtrip nonstop flight to Tokyo b/c it's only $500. Then, 2 weeks later, I was in Tokyo, ready to get all Jappy. I mean it WAS gonna be my 2nd time in Japan...
So, yeah, I hadn't been to Tokyo since I was fresh outta college like 10+ years ago... And, yeah I was down to see what was in store this time around. I was so psyched that the Trash Talk dudes let me tag along on tour with them to a couple more cities in Japan like Osaka, Nagoya, and Enoshima right when I landed in Tokyo. It was some Hardcore Punk shit this time around and I was down to see another side of music in a totally different side of the world.
Shoutout to the Trash Talk dudes for lighting Japan on Fire on this tour. I'm working with the dudes at PRMRY to do an official thing about the punk tour that should look icey coming soon ;) But if you need some more Raw Japanese Hardcore Punk footage in your life, then CLICK HERE MOTHAFUCKAS
First off, needed to give the first S/O to my twin from another Japanese mother, Verdy aka VK Designs aka the hardest working man in Tokyo... This guy took great care of us and was basically my guide from the moment I stepped into Tokyo...
Here are a couple nice snaps from the tour that I stuck on a mini slideshow thingie of the chaos and all that pent-up AZN steam being let out at these shows:
When we got back from the tour, we went back to Tokyo for the next couple of days to just soak up the vibes like any normal curious American down to go adventuring in Futureland with your best buds from LA (that could also understand my sarcasm in a world of Yoshis).
S/O to the following homies from LA that joined me in an epicly random trip. Here are some photos of the homies enjoying being homies.
ALRIGHT... After kicking it for a couple days doing random Tokyo shit w/ the Crew...our other homie, VIRGIL ABLOH, rolled thru Tokyo to do the BABYLON LA x OFF-WHITE TOKYO pop-up shop in Ginza (aka Beverly Hills shopping vibes) SO... MORE ACTIVITIES IN TOKYO! Yung Glen from 10 years ago woulda killed to have friends and fun in Tokyo... JK
SO... we kicked it at the store's grand opening for a bit b/c we were really good at loitering w/ cool fashion kids from Japan ;) Anyhow, huge shoutout to YASHIKI & KEISUKE [prayer hands emoji] from the Off-White Tokyo store for being super nice to me and letting me crash ur fancy dinner.
Here are some more photos of the store-opening for all you Hypebeasts out there ;)
So, yeah it was dope to cheer on the Japanese Hype Robots lol, but it was doper to run into the OG Tokyo DJ plug, Jommy from Tokio aka Senpai Jommy. He also DJ'd later that night at the afterparty at CONTACT in Shibuya... so yeah, shit was fun kicking it with the buds in faraway Japan.
He also B2B DJ'd later that night at the afterparty at CONTACT in Shibuya w/ V... so yeah, shit was fun kicking it with the buds in faraway Japan.
Another rad thing about Jommy... He has this column in this rad fashion mag in Japan called Ollie Magazine... and guess who got interviewed for the next issue ;)
Hmmm... what else did I do in Japan... more sightseeing stuff like this:
AND... Then on the last day of my Tokyo trip... the photographer for the Ollie Mag interview was a really dope dude named Wataru offered to drive me and Russ around to Chiba to a giant arcade...
So... yeah, I had a pretty rad random amazing eye-opening time in Japan and I suggest everyone go at like 5am and wander around and catch some of that Blade Runner/Akira vibe of the streets of Tokyo and end up with a favorite picture like this. I'm probably gonna frame this one.
Alright... I shared with you as much as I could and I didn't even sleep last night as I wrote this... trying to get my thoughts of such a random trip onto this blog. It took a while, but I'm glad I uploaded all this shit and I'm happy that you are gonna get to taste a bit of my trip. So, yeah, what did I say? GO TO TOKYO. It's tite.
